Lions Fall One Point Shy of Win Number Eight

Harrisburg, PA-  The Penn State Beaver Men's basketball team fell one point short to Central Penn College.  In actuality, they lost by an inch or so...

Central Penn opened up the game playing full court "Beaver" style defense.  Forcing turnovers, and jumping out to an early 29-14 lead.  Beaver battled back, chipping at the lead, and eventually tying the game at the half (46-46).

In the second half, Central led the majority of the half, once again building a lead of ten plus on a few occasions.  A resilient Beaver team battled the entire game, chipping away at the lead once again, and taking their first lead with two minutes remaining in the game.  Central Penn answered the call with a three to retake the lead with under a minute to go.  Junior Nick Miller (Beaver Falls/ Beaver Falls, PA) hit a free throw to pull Beaver with-in one with 30 seconds left.  Beaver then had to foul, and Penn hit both to take a three point lead with seven seconds left in the game.  On the final play of the game, Sophomore Chris Weathers (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) drove the court and then the lane, and then kicked it out to the corner to Senior Darius Prince (West Mifflin/ Pittsburgh, PA) who appeared to hit the game tieing three at the buzzer.  But as Beaver celebrated, the ref closest to the play declared the shot a two, making the final score 97-96 Central Penn.

In the loss, Prince, Miller, and Weathers led Beaver with 18 points a piece.  Sophomore Quenton Burton (Ambridge/ Ambridge, PA) added 14.  Devon Dorsey on Central Penn led all scorers with 40.

With the loss, Beaver heads into holiday break with a 7-3 overall record (4-1 in the PSUAC).  Beaver returns to action on January 4th, when they head to DII Fairmont State.  Game time is to be announced, but the game will be broadcasted here on the web.
