Familiar Faces Advance in Winner's Bracket on Day 1 of PSUAC Baseball Tournament

DUBOIS, Pa. - A familiar scene played out on Friday at Showers Field in DuBois, Pa. as the 2025 PSUAC Baseball Championship Tournament got underway. Penn State DuBois and Penn State Mont Alto each advanced out of their divisional play and will once again meet in the winner's bracket final on Saturday morning.

A rivalry that has seen the teams meet consistently in the PSUAC Tournament will be renewed once again with a spot in the championship game on the line. They're joined in advancing to Saturday play by Penn State Schuylkill and Penn State Shenango, both teams with a loss in the event but still alive in the loser's bracket.

Shenango kicked off their first-ever baseball postseason game with a bang, with the first four batters reaching base. Dominic Fornataro and Dante Micaletti each hammered balls to the centerfield wall before Troy Bachman finally cleared it to give Shenango a 3-0 lead. Shenango would extend it to 9-0 after two innings and was able to fend off a late rally from Penn State Greater Allegheny in the West Division's elimination game.

Mont Alto followed with a commanding performance, knocking out Penn State York from the East Division pool. Joshua Sullivan went five strong innings, giving up just two runs while Wyatt Kissel and Carter Fogal each homered in a 6-2 victory.

DuBois picked up the 2025 postseason right where they left off in the regular season, staying undefeated in conference play with a 9-0 win over Shenango. Kyle Elensky and Isaac Tiracorda combined to go 7-for-7 with three runs scored and four RBIs as DuBois cracked 14 hits and forced Shenango to go through five pitchers. Connor Cherry pitched a complete game shutout for DuBois, giving up just three hits.

Mont Alto, who lost the tiebreaker with Schuylkill for the top seed in the East, exacted a bit of revenge with an 8-1 win as Zach Garlin retained his familiar postseason form over six-plus innings, scattering five hits and striking out 11 to help Mont Alto advance in the winner's bracket. Five Mont Alto players drove in runs, led by Caiden Smith's three RBIs.

Schuylkill and Shenango meet on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Showers Field in an elimination game in their first meeting of the year. Mont Alto and DuBois will then add to their recent history around 11:30 a.m. The winner will advance to Sunday's Championship game. The loser will play Saturday night against the Schuylkill-Shenango winner with the final spot in the championship game on the line.
