UNIONTOWN, Pa. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team was in cruise control as it swept Penn State Fayette 21-8 and 14-1 Saturday. Junior Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore Matthew Demilio (Greensburg) each recorded a victory. The wins now improve the Wildcats to 10-7 overall and 7-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

 

In game one, Santangelo pitched the first four innings with five strikeouts and six earned runs. Fayette sprinkled nine hits scoring its runs in the second, fourth and fifth.

 

Penn College scored five in the first which included RBI from juniors Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) and Joshua Longsderff (Columbia), sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) and freshman Rantz Mahaffey (Williamsport). Buterbaugh ended the game 4 for 5 with four RBI.

 

Longsderff kept it going in the second capping off three runs for the Wildcats with an RBI double. Hendershot hit his first of two homeruns in the game in the third for two RBI. They scored five in the inning making it a 13-2 game.

 

Hendershot finished the game with four hits.

 

After two more runs in the fourth, sophomore Zachary Weil put it completely out of reach in the fifth with a three-run shot. He finished the day 2 for 2.

 

Freshman Derek Umstead (Linden) finished out the game allowing two earned runs in the fifth.

 

In the second game, Demilio went four strong with zero rns and two strikeouts. He got some run support in the second with six runs including RBI doubles from Buterbaugh, sophomore James Scully (Middletown, Del) and freshman Kyle Eck (South Williamsport) and Jeremy Rall (Williamsport).

 

Five more unrs came int he fifth including a two-run home run from Longsderff. The Wildcats closed out their tab with three runs in the fifth off of some Fayette errors.

 

Freshman Seth Bowersox (Port Royal) finished out the game pitching in the fifth with a strikeout and one run.

 

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Beaver on Sunday, Apr. 7 for a noon doubleheader.
