Baseball: Wildcats Put Up 25 Runs in Sweep of PSU York

YORK, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team put on an offensive show scoring 25 runs in a Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) doubleheader against Penn State York Tuesday. The Wildcats won 14-0 and 11-2 with junior Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore Matthew Demilio (Greensburg) recording the wins. The team now improves to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.  

In game one, Santangelo pitching the complete game shutout allowing only two hits in five innings of work. He struck out seven.  

Penn College put up a run in the first off an RBI from junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) and followed it up with two more runs in the third, this time off a 2RBI double from sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown).

The Wildcat's biggest inning came in the fourth when they scored 11 runs capped off by 2RBI doubles from both sophomores Travis Hendershot (Muncy) and Craig Watson (McEwnsville). Watson ended the game with two hits.

For the game, Penn College totaled 13 hits with freshman Jeremy Rall (Williamsport going 3 for 3 with two runs while junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) was 2 for 3.

In game two, Demilio pitched the first six innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs. Sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) finished out the final inning allowing no hits.

After York scored a run in the first off a solo shot, the Wildcats came back to tie in the first and then take the lead in the second 2-1. They put up two more runs in the third off of RBI hits from Hendershot and sophomore Nicholas Fazio (Norristown).

Penn College put up most of their runs in the seventh with seven runs including a 2RBI double from sophomore Paul Phan (Langhorne) and a three-run home run from Zachary Buterbaugh.

For the game, freshman James Simasek (Landenberg) was 2 for 4 with a double.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Thursday, Apr. 4 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
