Beaver wins first game at Nationals

In their first game at the 2012 USCAA World Series, Penn State Beaver prevailed in a marathon contest by a score of 15-13. The game lasted over 3 hours overall as Beaver defeated the host team, Robert Morris Springfield to advance in the tournament.

Beaver used four pitchers in game including Zack DelTurco (Monaca, Monaca High School), Ron Wilkins (Hookstown, South Side), Tyler Schuster (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) and Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center). Schuster came away with the win and Wagner recorded the save.

The offense compiled 16 hits on their way to scoring 15 runs. The offense was led by Mike Karas (Imperial, West Allegheny) who had four hits and scored five runs.  Markus Allen (New Castle, Union) and Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer) each had three hits for Beaver while Jimmy Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge) and Garrett Covalt (Aliquippa, Hopewell) had two hits. Scott and Covalt each drove in three runs and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) had two RBI.

Beaver will continue in the winner's bracket of the tournament when they play the #2 seeded Apprentice School Tuesday morning at 10.
