Roaring Lions Bats Come Alive in Sweep of Boyce

HOPWOOD, Pa. – The Roaring Lions erupted for 26 runs on Saturday en route to a pair of non-conference wins over CCAC Boyce. Fayette swept the doubleheader by scores of 13-3 and 13-0.

Sam Beucher (Connellsville, Pa.) hit a pair of home runs and was 3-7 on the day with six RBI. Colvin Adey (Connellsville, Pa.) was 5-7 and drove in a run.

GAME ONE

Travis VanOlst (Coal Center, Pa.) picked up the win, scattering five hits in four innings, striking out six and walking none.

Fayette opened the scoring in the top of the first. Nolan Zavora (Charleroi, Pa.) and Cody Ward (Connellsville, Pa.) walked and scored on Zach Durbin's (Carmichaels, Pa.) double down the left field line.

After Boyce scored a single run in the top of the second, Fayette added another pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

Adey led off with a double to left center and Jonathan Eicher (Uniontown, Pa.) followed with an infield single and both he and Adey later scored on an error.

Boyce added single runs in the third and fourth.

Fayette broke the game open with five in the bottom of the fourth. Zavora's triple down the right field line scored A.J. Tworzydlo (Centerville, Pa.), who has reached on an error. Zavora scored on an error and Beucher's double to deep left field scored Alex Fogle (Connellsville, Pa.), who had reached on an error.

The Roaring Lions ended the game in the bottom of the sixth, tacking on three runs. Beucher led off with a homer to deep left center field. Adey singled and advanced to third when Eicher reached on an error. Chris Jeffery's singled to right field, scoring Adey and Eicher and ending the game under the 10-run rule.

GAME TWO

Eicher picked up the win in game two, scattering three hits and striking out two over three scoreless innings. Beucher and Durbin each tossed scoreless innings for the Roaring Lions.

Fayette scored two in the first. Zavora led off the game with a single to right. After two outs, he stole second and Durbin was hit by a pitch. Both Zavora and Durbin scored on errors.

The Roaring Lions took command by plating seven runs in the bottom of the second. With one out, Jeffery doubled to left center. Ward singled to center loading the bases. Fogle get an RBI when he walked on four pitches, scoring Zavora. Durbin picked up a pair of RBI with a single. Beucher cleaned the bases with a towering home run to right center. Adey singled through the right side and scored on an error.

Fayette put up another four runs in the third. Durbin's double to left center scored a pair. Conner McKeel picked up in RBI and Harold McCutchen (Claysville, Pa.) plated another run with a single.

Beucher and Durbin each pitched scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Roaring Lions improve to 6-14 on the season and return to PSUAC action on Wednesday, April 11 when they host Penn State Beaver at 2 p.m. at Hutchinson Field.
