Penn College Baseball Swept Penn State York

YORK, Pa. - Sophomores Jarod Bull (Jacobus) and Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) each recorded a win on the mound as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team swept Penn State York in conference action Tuesday. Bull won the first game 6-1 pitching five innings with four strikeouts and no runs. Santangelo won 9-2 in the second game also going five innings with three striekouts and one run. The win improves the Wildcats to 14-6 overall and 7-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

In the opener, Penn College plated two in the first capped off by an RBI double from senior Garrett Hornung (Emporium). Senior Thomas Hughes (Easton) made it a 3-0 lead in the second hitting a sacrifice fly to score junior Matt King (Southampton) who singled.

It was Hughes again in the sixth hitting a two-RBI single. Sophomore Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) also hit an RBI single in the inning. Sophomore Philip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) came in relief for Bull. He allowed a run in the seventh by York, but ended the threat.

Hughes ended the game with two hits and three RBI while King added two hits.

In game two, the Wildcats put up three in the first. Frehman Travis Hendershot (Muncy) hit a two-RBI double and freshman Zachary Weil (Kutztown) followed with an RBI double. York scored a run in the bottom of the inning making it 3-1.

It was a 7-1 game after the second that saw both Hornung and Hendershot hit RBI doubles. A run in the sixth and the seventh put it out of reach even as the Lions scored in the seventh. Freshman John Rodriguez-McKeon (Stroudsburg) pitched the final two innings of the game with five strikeouts and one earned run.

Penn College totaled 10 hits with Hendershot going 2-2 with two RBI. Also, freshman James Scully III (Middletown, Del.) was 2-3 and sophomore Christian Calle (College Point, N.Y.) was 2-4.

Next up, the Wildcats travel to Marywood University for a 3:30 p.m. game on Thursday, Apr. 5.
