Beaver takes two at Wilkes-Barre

In Wilkes-Barre PA, the Penn State Beaver baseball team swept a doubleheader against Penn State Wilkes-Barre, by scores of 6-4 and 23-2. In the first contest, Beaver got a strong pitching performance by Ronnie Wilkins (Hookstown, South Side High School) as he went 6 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs and striking out three as he picked up the win. Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center) followed Wilkins and recorded the save. The offense was led by Jimmy Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge) who finished with three hits including two doubles and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell) who hit a solo home run in the third inning. Musgrave also finished with two RBI and two runs scored. James Pashuta (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls) also scored two runs for Beaver.

While game one was a competitive until the final pitch, the same can not be said for game two as the Beaver bats going good early and continued to be productive throughout the contest. Beaver compiled 11 hits and scored in each of the five innings of the run-ruled shortened game. Mike Karas (Imperial, West Allegheny), Andrew DiPietrantonio (Beaver, Beaver) and Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer) each had two hits in the game. Steve Galmarini (New Castle, Union), Bill Harrington (Monaca, Central Valley), Garrett Covalt (Aliquippa, Hopewell) and Karas each had three RBI for Beaver.

The victories improve Beaver's record to 10-9 and 5-1 in PSUAC conference play and will be back in action on Wednesday as the host Point Park University.
