Wildcats Make it Four in a Row with Sweep over Fayette

 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) had six hits, four RBI and three runs to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team to its sweep over Penn State Fayette Saturday.  The Wildcats won 2-1 and 8-3 making it their fourth straight win.  Sophomores Jacob Wrenn (Granville, Mass.) and Jarod Bull (Jacobus) each recorded wins on the afternoon.

Game one was tight with Penn College (11-5, 4-0 PSUAC) notching a run in the first off an RBI single from senior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz).  Hornung scored on the play after singling in his at bat.  Fayette tied it up in the fifth off an RBI double from Zach Durbin.  Freshman starter Zachary Yetter (Thompstown) left the game as sophomore Jarod Bull (Jacobus) came in relief.  Yetter ended the game going 4.1 innings with five strikeouts, one run and seven walks.

 After Bull loaded the bases with two walks, he struck out A.J. Tworzydlo to end the threat.The Wildcats struck right away in the bottom of the inning when Hornung lead off with a triple.  A sacrifice fly from freshman Zachary Smith (Middletown) scored him.

Freshman Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) came to the mound in the seventh.  Alex Fogle tripled to leadoff putting the tying run in scoring position with no outs.  A botched suicide squeeze allowed Penn College to throw out Fogle.  Buterbaugh settled striking out the remaining two batters for the save.

In the game, both Buterbaugh and Smith made great grabs in the outfield to hold off Fayette from scoring more runs.  Horning finished the game with two hits and two runs.  The Wildcats totaled seven hits.  Bull recorded the win going 1.2 innings with no hits and two strikeouts.

 In the second game, the offense came out strong totaling 13 hits.  Freshman Zachary Weil (Kutztown) got things going in the second with an RBI double to score freshman Travis Hendershot (Muncy) who also doubled.  Buterbaugh followed with an RBI single and after senior Thomas Hughes (Easton) singled, Hornung came up with a double for two RBI making it a 4-0 game.

After the Lions got a run in the fourth, Penn College plated another run in the fifth and then added three more in the sixth to make it 8-1.  Sophomore Phil Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) came in to close out the game in the seventh.  A single and an error allowed Fayette to put two up on the board, but the comeback fell short as Carnevale got Durbin to fly out to left to end the game.

Wrenn earned the victory going six strong with one run off of five hits and four strikeouts.  Buterbaugh had three hits, two runs and an RBI in the game while Weil had two hits, two runs and an RBI.  

Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Beaver for a conference doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 1 at noon.
