Beaver takes down Geneva

At Geneva College, Penn State Beaver defeated Geneva College by a score of 6-4. The Beaver pitchers allowed zero earned runs over the nine inning contest.

Ron Wilkins (Hookstown, South Side High School) got the start going 2 shutout innings and Tom Lewis (Aliquippa, Hopewell High School) followed with two shutout innings of his own. Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center High School) threw three innings, giving up no runs and eventually picking up the win. Vinny Beatty (Rochester, Rochester High School) threw the last 2 innings for Beaver allowing zero earned runs.  

The Beaver offense got off to a slow start in the contest, not scoring any runs until the top of the sixth inning, when they plated four runs. Alex Filippi (Monaca, Center High School) scored the first run of the game when he scored on a Markus Allen (New Castle, Union High School) RBI single. James Pashuta (Beaver Falls, Beaver Falls High School) and Allen would later score on a James Musgrave (Economy, Ambridge High School) double and Musgrave would be knocked in on a Wagner single. Beaver would score two more in the seventh, when both Filippi and Pashuta scored on a Garrett Covalt (Aliquippa, Hopewell High School) RBI single. Geneva scored four in the eighth to make the score 6-4 but Beaver was able to close it out in the ninth to get the victory.

Allen finished the day with three hits and Pashuta added two.  Beaver will host Penn State Brandywine on Sunday at home, which will be the home opener for Beaver as well as the conference opener.
