Wildcats Open Season 2-0

 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team scored 36 runs in two games to open the 2012 season 2-0 at the Ripken Experience Spring Break Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  The Wildcats defeated King's College (Pa.) JV 18-4 followed up by an 18-6 win over Eastern University (Pa.) JV.  "The weather today was really windy," said head coach Chris Howard.  "We battled through it and so far everything is looking good."

In the opener against King's, junior Harrison Myers (Lebanon) recorded the win going 2 2/3 with a strikeout, three hits and four earned runs.  Sophomore Philip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) closed out the final 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, two hits and no runs.

The Wildcats posted four runs in the first with freshman Travis Hendershot (Muncy) hitting a bases loaded single scoring two.  Sophomore Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) following up with another single to score two more.  Buterbaugh ended the game going 3-4 with four RBI.

After posting three runs in the second and a run in the third, Penn College put together a 10 run fourth off of seven hits including a two RBI double from Hendershot.  The game ended in five.   Also for the Wildcats, Garrett Hornung (Emporium) went 3-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Against Eastern, Penn College opened with a seven-run first inning including a double from Cody Buterbaugh that scored three.  Freshman Zack Buterbaugh (Conestoga) followed with two RBI off another double.  Hornung hit a three-run home run in the second to cap off a six run effort.  Also in the inning, senior Jared Johnson (Wyalusing) notched two RBI off a triple.

Sophomore Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) recorded the win with three strikeouts, one hit and no runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.  Sophomore Jarod Bull (Jacobus) threw two innings with two strikeouts and no hits or runs. 

The Wildcats next play Olney College on Tuesday, Mar. 6 for a 2:30 p.m. game
