Minerd wins game with walk off

Lemont Furnace, PA- Fayette gets final inning win over Thiel.

Thiel College seemed to have the first game of the double header locked up with a grandslam, making the score 4-2. Thiel then struck again in the top of the seventh to create more separation with a 3 run lead. Heading into the bottom of the seventh it seemed like all hope was lost with two outs and then Carissa Caldwell hit Sammie McGhee in to give the Nittany Lions hope. Olivia Logan and Cassidy Uphold both had RBIs to tie the game 6-6. Lauran Minerd singled a hard grounder to have Uphold score for a win of 7-6.

Minerd shared her thoughts about her big game moment, "My walk-off wouldn't have been possible without the rest of my team behind me. I am beyond grateful for the support they have shown me this season, and I couldn't have done it without them. My hit may have won us that inning, but it was the work of my team that won us that game."

Leading for Fayette was Lauran Minerd with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Close behind was Cassidy Uphold with 2 runs, 2 hits and 1 RBI.
