PSUAC Members to Participate in Annual Student-Athlete Advisory Council's 3's for THON Event
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference, in conjunction with its conference Student-Athlete Advisory Council, is slated to hold its annual 3's for THON event to raise money that benefits pediatric cancer research. 3's for THON was started in 2020 by the PSUAC SAAC and has raised funds each year. The event has generated more than $22,000 in the four years it has been held (it was not held in 2021 due to the pandemic).
Beginning the week of January 21st (with the exception of Penn State Scranton), PSUAC members will host fundraisers to benefit their campus THON groups at basketball games around the Commonwealth. All 14 campuses plan to participate and will provide various opportunities to give. Ranging from donation boxes to contests and raffles, all proceeds will go towards the 2025 Penn State THON fundraising total that routinely exceeds $10 million annually.
Each PSUAC member is represented on SAAC by two student-athletes, a male and female, who work in conjunction with their athletic directors and student affairs groups to organize the event, which has historically taken place during the last week in January and first week of February. Campuses select a home game to participate and select their fundraisers individually, so each campus' event is unique.
Penn State Scranton kicked off the event last weekend, hosting fundraisers at each of its home games on January 17 and 18. Scranton has routinely raised more than $1,500 each year towards the 3's for THON initiative, leading the event in three of the four years of its existence.
"3's for THON is a unique way for our students to engage with something beyond their sport and realize the differences they can make on their campus and in this important area of research," said PSUAC Commissioner Ryan Ehrie. "It's always great to see campuses continue certain fundraisers as they find success, as well as the new things our students come up with each year."

THON weekend is scheduled for February 21-23 in the Bryce Jordan Center. The 46-hour event sees dancers stand through its duration while members of their organization cheer from the stands. Musical guests and other skits are also performed throughout the event.
