Mont Alto Leads Chancellor's Cup Standings After Fall Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Defending Chancellor's Cup champion Penn State Mont Alto leads after the fall standings for the annual department award that recognizes comprehensive excellence in the PSUAC. Mont Alto earned 28.5 points on the season, picking up one title along the way.

Mont Alto was boosted on the strength of a conference title in golf, while runner-up finishes in both women's soccer and volleyball helped provide them with a 5.5 point lead over their nearest competitor, Penn State York. York is the only team in the top four of the standings without a conference title victory, but steady performances by each of their three fall sports gave them an edge for second place. York's golf team finished as the runners-up at the PSUAC Championships, while men's soccer advanced to the semifinals of PSUAC play and its volleyball team made the quarterfinals.

Tied for third with 20 points are Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Lehigh Valley, each supported by a conference championship. Hazleton captured the PSUAC Volleyball title while Lehigh Valley won the PSUAC Men's Soccer crown. Each championship was the first ever for those programs. Lehigh Valley was also propelled by a third-place finish in golf.

The standings revealed a three-way tie as we round out the top five, with Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Schuylkill and Penn State Shenango each finished the fall with 16.5 points. Schuylkill is the only one of the three to win a conference title, picking up a win in the PSUAC Women's Soccer championship. Greater Allegheny finished as the runner-up in men's soccer and made the PSUAC Volleyball quarterfinals, while Shenango advanced to the semifinals in volleyball.

The PSUAC Chancellor's Cup awards points based on conference finish in the postseason, with teams receiving points in a descending fashion. Teams that do not make the playoffs also receive points based on overall conference record. Winter standings will be released after the PSUAC Basketball Championships, while final standings will be released in May.
