Brandywine Men's Soccer, Mont Alto Women's Soccer Look to Continue Championship Streaks on Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 2023 PSUAC Men's and Women's Soccer Championship games on Tuesday will feature multiple teams looking to extend their own championship streaks. In our opener, Penn State Brandywine men's soccer will seek its seventh straight PSUAC title before Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer will attempt to secure the three-peat in the nightcap at Panzer Stadium on the University Park campus.

Panzer Stadium, the home to Penn State's Division I men's and women's lacrosse programs, will host the PSUAC Soccer Championships for the second straight year and features a full turf field with stadium seating and a complete press box.

Looking to knock top-seeded Brandywine off its men's soccer pedestal will be a new challenger--Penn State New Kensington. The no. 2 seed earned a tie in the regular season with the defending champs and advances to its first men's soccer title game in well over a decade. On the women's side, a rematch of 2022 will feature Brandywine's women's squad looking for redemption over Mont Alto, who won the title last year and both regular season matches between the teams in 2023.

The winner of each match will earn the PSUAC's automatic bid into the 2023 USCAA Division II Soccer Championship tournament slated to begin Friday, November 17th.

The championship games will begin with the men's game on Tuesday, November 7 at 4:00 p.m. The women's game will follow immediately at 6:30 p.m. Games will be streamed live on the PSU Campus Athletics Network at the link below, or the app for iOS or Android devices!

Men's Championship

#2 Penn State New Kensington (12-4-1 overall, 7-0-1 PSUAC) vs. #1 Penn State Brandywine (16-3-2 overall, 7-0-1 PSUAC)

Tuesday, November 7th, 4:00 p.m.

One of our participants is a familiar face--Brandywine has been a frequent visitor to University Park for the PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship game over the last decade, winning six straight titles and eight of the last nine. They'll be led once again by Chris Manful, a threat to score at all times, who finished with a league-leading 26 goals and 59 points. Manful's teammates Kyle Reuter and Jayden Barragan finished one-two in the conference in assists, undoubtedly with many going to Manful. Ali Abdelhady also finished in the top five in goals scored with 11. On the defensive side, Brandywine has depth not just on the back line but also in the net. Will Manarpaac has yet to allow a goal in 11 games this season, racking up 14 saves. The man he replaced late in the year, Eli DeBooth picked up eight wins and 54 saves for Brandywine early in the season.

Opposing them will be a new face--New Kensington. The southwestern campus has never won a PSUAC Men's Soccer title and looks to end that drought in 2023. Led by a powerful one-two punch on offense with Devin Murray and Ethan Hutcherson, who finished with 16 and 9 goals, respectively, New Kensington's balanced attack will look to pressure Brandywine from multiple angles. Jake Guerrini also finished in the top 10 in goals scored in the PSUAC with seven, and Hutcherson was third to his Brandywine counterparts with eight assists on the year. Kenton Knox will likely man the goal for New Kensington, finishing the year 10-3-1 with a 1.72 goals against average.

Women's Championship

#2 Penn State Brandywine (10-6-1 overall, 8-2 PSUAC) vs. #1 Penn State Mont Alto (13-3-1 overall, 10-0 PSUAC)

Tuesday, November 7th, 6:30 p.m.

A familiar match-up will grace all viewers on Tuesday evening after the sun sets. Mont Alto will look to continue its streak with another women's soccer crown, with perennial contender Brandywine looking to avenge a 5-0 loss in last year's title game. Much like the men's game before it, the women's contest will feature the leagues top scorers, three of which are boasted by the Mont Alto squad. Grace Lochner (15), Alexis Mariano (13) and Avery Diehl (11) finished second, third and fourth in the conference in goals scored. Madison Eberly also led the PSUAC with nine assists.

For Brandywine, Jess James was the top goal scorer not just on her team but also the entire conference with 19. James also notched two assists to help lead the conference in points with 40. Teammates Zoey Lineman and Gia Cetroni paced the team with six assists apiece, good enough for fourth in the conference.

Perhaps the most intriguing match-up on Tuesday night will be in goal. Mont Alto's Kiaya Mouer and Brandywine's Demareste Dorvilma seemingly swapped Goalie of the Week honors every week during the season with Mouer leading the league in save percentage and goals against average. Dorvilma was second in goals against average and stopped nearly 75 percent of the shots she faced.
