PSUAC Announces Softball Championship Format Changes

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference has announced changes to its softball championship format which was impacted this past weekend by steady rain. The full double-elimination first weekend was unable to be completed, forcing the changes below that were approved by the Conference Office and Competition & Ethics Committee.

Each pool of teams was unable to play the full complement of games, with Pool 2 finishing three games and Pool 1 completing one. Game two of Pool 1 was suspended after three innings.

The tournament will resume on Friday, May 5th as Penn State Schuylkill and Penn State Brandywine will finish their halted contest at MapleZone. After that game, all remaining teams will move on to State College starting Sunday to crown a champion. The loser of the Brandywine-Schuylkill game will face Penn State DuBois at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination contest at Nittany Lion Softball Park on the University Park campus. With each pool then being at the same stage of its original pool play after this game, the tournament will then move to a single elimination format.

Penn State Mont Alto will face Penn State New Kensington at 5:00 p.m. at Nittany Lion Softball Park, with the winner of the Brandywine-Schuylkill game playing at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of Sunday's first game.
