PSUAC Announces Spring All-Conference Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference announced its 2023 spring sport All-Conference teams on Thursday as nearly 100 student-athletes received recognition for their outstanding performance during the regular season.

All 11 baseball teams were represented by All-Conference selections, led by Penn State Mont Alto's seven selections. In softball, nine teams had All-Conference honorees as Penn State Brandywine led the way with six.

Brandywine's Kaylee Mushinski was named the Softball Player of the Year after an outstanding campaign in which she led the PSUAC with 51 RBIs and finished with a .417 average. Penn State New Kensington's Addyson Gregg was named Pitcher of the Year after finishing second in both innings pitched and wins. Gregg also collected two saves and led the conference in strikeouts.

Penn State Fayette's Olivia Logan earned Rookie of the Year honors after leading the league with a whopping .553 batting average and finishing second to Mushinski with 46 RBIs. Logan's 57 hits also paced the conference.

On the baseball diamond, Mont Alto's Jared Pine was named the West's Player of the Year after batting .485 and driving in 34 runs. Pine also led the league in stolen bases (31) and runs scored (54). Brandywine's Nick Wright was named the East Division Player of the Year after finishing the season with a .393 average, 41 RBIs, 42 runs scored and 12 doubles.

A pair of Penn State Schuylkill starters picked up specialty awards in the East Division as Owen Shoop was named Pitcher of the Year and Chase Herb earned Rookie of the Year. Herb batted .419 and finished with 18 extra-base hits, including four homers. Shoop led the league with a 1.23 ERA in 36 2/3 innings pitched, picking up five wins along the way.

In the West, Mont Alto's Trystan Housman went a perfect 7-0 on the hill to earn Pitcher of the Year, striking out 59 batters in 50 innings along the way. Penn State Fayette's Ethan Rendulic and Penn State Greater Allegheny's Duston Strom share Rookie of the Year recognition. Strom batted .364 and drove in 27 runs while Rendulic hit .355 and added 33 RBIs.

Coach of the Year honors went to Mont Alto's Shawn Kissel in baseball after leading his team to the top seed in the West Divsion, finishing the regular season 29-11, including 17-3 in the PSUAC. Kissel's softball counterpart at Mont Alto, Heath Newell, shares the softball Coach of the Year prize with New Kensington's Mike Marsili. Newell's team had a bounce-back season after narrowly missing the playoffs last season. Mont Alto climbed to the second spot in the conference on the strength of a 15-3 mark in PSUAC play and a 24-10 record overall. Marsili finished with his best season ever, and one of the best in program history. New Kensington finished third in the PSUAC regular season standings and 23-10 overall.
