Penn State DuBois, Fayette and Schuylkill Capture End of Year USCAA Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference was well represented at the 2021 USCAA Convention Awards presentation, as three campuses took home hardware during the virtual event to cap the end of the 2020-21 academic year.

Penn State DuBois captured the USCAA's highest institutional honor by winning their first Director's Cup, edging out Mississippi University for Women by 1.5 points for the award that recognizes comprehensive excellence in an athletic department. DuBois totaled 220 points on the year and was anchored by their baseball program's third consecutive national title. In addition, DuBois softball finished fourth in the USCAA Small College World Series and their golf team finished eighth at the USCAA Invitational. The win is also the first ever by a program in the PSUAC.

Penn State Fayette earned second in the USCAA President's Cup, an award set forth to honor member institutions whose student-athletes excel in the classroom. The President's Cup committee awards points to institutions by their rank against other institutions in program GPA, All-Academic award winners (3.5 GPA+ individuals) and overall athletic department GPA. Fayette's composite score was 4.33, slightly behind champion Christendom College.

DuBois also finished tied for third in the USCAA President's Cup with Penn State Schuylkil; both programs finished with a composite score of 5.67.

Additionally, a PSUAC member Athletic Director took home some individual honors during the event as Penn State Beaver's Andy Kirschner was named the USCAA Garth Pleasant Athletic Director of the Year. Andy served on the Past President's Committee, co-chaired the Strategic Planning Committee, and sits on the Eligibility Committee. Andy also chaired an Eligibility Subcommittee to evaluate potential changes to USCAA eligibility rules. Kirschner shared the honor with Southern Maine Community College's Matt Richards.
