Penn State DuBois Captures 2021 USCAA Crown to Three-Peat

DUBOIS, Pa. - Penn State DuBois rolled in the deciding game of the 2021 USCAA Small College World Series, defeating Cincinnati-Clermont 10-5 to win its third consecutive USCAA National Championship.

Dan Stauffer was named Tournament MVP as he recorded his third save of the tournament to seal the victory for DuBois. Stauffer also went 2-for-4 in the final game, and hit three home runs during the week. Teammates Brandon Orsich and Toner Corl joined Stauffer on the All-Tournament Team.

DuBois won their first game of the week 11-2 over Mid Atlantic Christian before downing Mississippi University for Women 5-4 on Tuesday. DuBois and Clermont squared off in the winner's bracket finals on Wednesday, as Stauffer lifted the Lions with a homer and picked up the save in a 3-2 win.

Clermont battled back into the championship game and forced the if necessary game with an 11-10 win over DuBois in the first game of the day on Thursday, and held a 3-1 lead heading into the 7th inning. DuBois exploded for four runs in the 7th to grab the lead, including a three-run home run from Corl. Despite Clermont answering to tie it in the bottom half of hte inning, DuBois continued to put pressure on Clermont pitchers to plate two in the 8th and three in the 9th. Stauffer pitched the final two innings to seal the victory.

Orsich, who picked up the win in DuBois' first game of the tournament, threw 6 2/3 innings in the final game, striking out five. Corl finished the Championship game 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

DuBois previously won the USCAA National Championship in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
