Penn State DuBois Claims Three-Peats as PSUAC Baseball Champs

DUBOIS, Pa. - Penn State DuBois captured their third straight PSUAC Baseball title on Tuesday, toppling West Division number one seed Penn State Mont Alto 16-4 at Showers Field in DuBois. DuBois won on Monday afternoon to force today's "If Necessary" game, winning the tournament from the loser's bracket.

This was the eighth, but most important meeting between the teams this year. The series split 4-4, with DuBois taking the final game after exploding for 10 runs combined in the 4th and 5th innings. Mont Alto jumped out to a 2-1 lead after two innings, but DuBois answered with two runs in the third, five in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

DuBois clubbed 20 hits on the day, including the biggest blast from Dan Stauffer, a three-run home run in the fourth to extend the Lions' lead to 8-2. Mont Alto plated two runs in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough as DuBois grabbed the PSUAC's automatic bid into the 2021 USCAA Small College World Series. Mont Alto and Brandywine have received at-large bids into the USCAA tournament, which is slated to begin on Monday, May 17th in DuBois, Pa.

Braiden Blair picked up the win on the hill, going five innings and giving up two runs on five hits. Four DuBois players had multi-hit games, led by Joey DiPietro's four hit effort. Logan Wagner and Cory Lehman added three hits apiece while Stauffer had two hits total including the home run. Mont Alto's Chance McClure smacked three hits while Jonathan Lentvorsky added two.
