Leininger & Kissel Earn Top Honors on 2021 PSUAC Baseball All-Conference Teams

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University Athletic Conference announced its 2021 Baseball All-Conference Teams on Thursday, headlined by the Players of the Year, Jake Leininger (Penn State Schuylkill) and Hayden Kissel (Mont Alto).

Leininger, the East Division's Player of the Year, hit .352 and led the conference with eight home runs and drove in 24 runs in just 16 games. Kissel, who topped the West Division as Player of the Year, hit .385 and drove in 30 runs for the West Division champions Mont Alto.

 

A total of 51 student-athletes from all 11 campuses with baseball received postseason recognition, including 11 John Fritz Sportsmanship Award winners. Division winner Brandywine had seven honorees on First Team or Honorable Mention, while West champ Mont Alto and division runner-up DuBois each added seven each as well. DuBois led the way with five First Team selections. Nine teams had at least one First Team selection.

Brandywine's Tyler Brooks earned East Division Newcomer of the Year honors, while Penn State Hazleton's Eric Nothstein was the East's Pitcher of the Year. Out West, Mont Alto's Zach Garlin became an ace and took home both Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Mont Alto's Shawn Kissel earned the nod as Coach of the Year from his peers after leading his team to a West Division title with 23-3 record, including 20-3 in the division. 

 

PSUAC Baseball All-Conference Awards

PSUAC All-Conference awards for team sports are nominated and voted on by the member campus coaching or administrative staffs. Individual sports, golf and cross country, are based on results from the PSUAC Championship events in those respective sports.
