Hazleton sophomore Kayla Rhome has been named this week's PSUAC Student-Athlete of the Week for softball as a pitcher. After her record-setting previous week, Rhome tossed her second career no-hitter on Saturday over SUNY Delhi, as the righty sat down ten batters in five innings of work. The sophomore retired five straight Bronco hitters via the first and second innings.
More impressive, the right-handed ace accounted for 14 of 15 outs either by strikeout or assisting on the put out. Rhome's only blemish was a fielding error in the fifth inning, costing her a perfect game, but a double play to end the contest allowed Rhome to complete the no-hitter while facing the minimum required batters.
Hazleton won 13-0 over the SUNY Delhi Broncos and are now 10-6 on the season before beginning conference action.
Kayla leads the PSUAC in strike-outs with 49 while holding down second place in earned run average of .98 and wins with a total of five. The righty currently resides in fourth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for ERA.
