Hazleton sophomore Kayla Rhome has been named this week's PSUAC Student-Athlete of the Week for softball as a pitcher. Rhome threw her first career no-hitter against Summit University on March 22nd, striking out six batters while allowing just one base runner by the way of a walk through five innings of work.
The right-handed pitcher followed up that performance with a shut-out victory over the University of Valley Forge, where she struck out nine opponents and allowed just a single hit.
With a total of 15 strike-outs on ten innings pitched, the sophomore earned a 2-0 record for the Hazleton Lions.
Kayla leads the PSUAC in total wins with four as well as strike-outs with 39. The righty also holds second place in the PSUAC and third in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association with an earned run average of 1.11.
