Senior Spotlight: Hunter Timmons, Penn State Mont Alto

Welcome to our Senior (and Sophomore) Spotlight series. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the PSUAC had to cancel its fall and winter sport seasons. This prevented several student-athletes from receiving a proper senior day and minimized opportunities for Player of the Week awards. In its place, we will highlight seniors from around the conference throughout the remainder of the semester.

See more Senior Spotlight highlights on our Twitter (@psuac) and Instagram (psuac)!

How did your Penn State education prepare you for life after graduation? During my time at Mont Alto it has prepared me with the knowledge needed to face real obstacles after graduation. It improved me as an individual and prepared me for the changes/growth yet to come!

How do you hope to be remembered by teammates and coaches? I hope to be remembered as a good teammate and a coach able player. It’s one thing to be recognized for athletic abilities, but above all I hope my attitude/love for the game/team were most memorable .

What is your favorite memory from playing your sport at Penn State? My favorite memory would have to be the tournament at University Park. We accomplished a lot on the court that weekend and shared a lot of laughs off the court.

What is the best advice you ever received from a coach or teammate that you would share with other student-athletes? That it is okay to be confident in your abilities as an athlete. Admitting that you are a good player isn’t a selfish thing to do, it’s a stepping stone to becoming the best you can possibly be.

What are you most looking forward to post graduation? Or in your transition to University Park (or other campus) to finish your degree? As an Animal Science major i’m excited to transition to University Park and get hands on experience in my classes.

What are some of the tools or skills that you learned through all the years of playing your sport that you plan to instill once you enter the workforce? Our team faced a lot of challenges this past season between our gym flooding, covid, and injuries. We were forced to face adversity head on and keep positive attitudes. Those challenges helped better me as an individual and for that I am grateful.

What impact did athletics have on your experience as a college student? What is your favorite memory outside of athletics during your time as a student-athlete? Being a college athlete definitely helped to improve my time management skills. My favorite memories while at Mont Alto happened during study time at 997 Cafe with my best friend/teammate Mack. We shared a lot of laughs and drank a lot of coffee at that little cafe.

Please use this space to thank anyone you wish to acknowledge for their support during your academic and athletic career. My coaches and teammates played a big role in me believing in myself and growing as an athlete. My friends and family kept me going on the days that I wasn’t sure I could handle it all. I owe them all a huge thanks!
