Baer, Crisswell, Sas & Shirk Earn Weekly Awards

Our regular season has ended in baseball and softball, with the postseason beginning this week. These Players of the Week propelled their teams into the playoffs with a great final week!

Team of the Week 30

Penn State Schuylkill Baseball

Penn State Schuylkill has won eight straight conference games, including six this past week to leap to the top of the East Division standings and will host the first weekend of the postseason on Saturday. The pitching staff allowed just 10 runs in eight conference games to close out the regular season and enters the playoffs with a 16-4 record in the PSUAC, and 28-12 overall.

Baseball Hitter of the Week 7

Brandon Shirk, Penn State York

With his team's backs against the wall, Penn State York's Brandon Shirk stepped up big when his team needed it the most. Taking on the top team in the East, Shirk led his team to three wins in four games, and leapfrogged Penn State Brandywine to earn the #2 seed in the division and knock Brandywine to third. Shirk went 6-for-12 in the series and drove in four runs. He scored three times as well, and cracked two doubles and a home run while never striking out. 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week 7

Tristian Baer, Penn State Schuylkill

Penn State Schuylkill's Tristian Baer pitched a complete game shutout last week to help his team grab the top seed in the East Division headed into the postseason. Baer went seven innings, gave up just five hits and walked just one to help his team complete the sweep of Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Baer struck out eight and was perfect in the field. He finished the game with a .86 WHIP.

Softball Hitter of the Week 7

McKenna Sas, Penn State Mont Alto

McKenna Sas was virtually unstoppable at the plate last week, reaching base 15 of 23 chances, including 14 hits and a walk. Sas finished the week 14-for-22 and scored nine runs while driving in nine as well. Sas cranked four doubles and a homer on the week, slugging .955 as her team clinched the #2 seed in the PSUAC Softball playoffs.

Softball Pitcher of the Week 7

Emma Crisswell, Penn State Schuylkill

Penn State Schuylkill's Emma Crisswell had a tremendous week in the circle, pitching two complete games and picking up four wins as her team jumped from the final playoff spot to the #4 seed during the week. Crisswell went 4-1 in five appearances, including two in relief. She surrendered just 11 hits and five runs in 23 innings while striking out 38 and walking just eight, a nearly 5-to-1 ratio. Crisswell finished the week with a 1.52 ERA and a .83 WHIP.
