New Kensington Softball, Four Individuals Honored with Weekly Awards

It's a rain filled Tuesday in central Pennsylvania, but last week was full of action the diamond. See our best players from the week that was below!

Team of the Week 27

Penn State New Kensington Softball

Penn State New Kensington did their best to keep pace with Penn State Brandywine, picking up four conference wins last week over Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Scranton. New Kensington exploded for 56 runs in four conference games, improving to 5-1 in PSUAC play and setting up a weekend showdown with conference leader Brandywine on Friday.

Baseball Hitter of the Week 4

Brett Beith, Penn State DuBois

Penn State DuBois' Brett Beith smashed three doubles and three home runs in six games last week, including his team's series sweep over rival Penn State Mont Alto. Beith finished with eight hits in 20 at-bats, driving in nine and scoring seven runs. Beith also stole three bases and slugged 1.000 for the division leaders.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week 4

Jaylen Bryant, Penn State Brandywine

Penn State Brandywine's Jaylen Bryant tossed a gem against Penn State Wilkes-Barre, setting career bests during the outing. Bryant threw a three-hit shutout and struck out eight batters, a personal record. Bryant also walked none for an impressive .43 WHIP.

Softball Hitter of the Week 4

Linda Shepard, Penn State New Kensington

Linda Shepard had a career-week at the plate last week, cracking three home runs and driving in 17 in just four games. Shepard also scored 10 times and finished with nine hits, including five doubles. Shepard struck out only once in 16 plate appearances, and slugged 1.533. Her OPS was an incredible 2.158.

Softball Pitcher of the Week 4

April Lewandowski, Penn State Brandywine

Penn State Brandywine's April Lewandowski finished the week 2-0 and gave up just two earned runs in 10 innings pitched. Lewandowski allowed just nine hits and struck out six as she picked up wins over Penn State Mont Alto and Albright, pitching to a 1.40 ERA during the week.
