Greater Allegheny Sinks Brandywine In Final Seconds

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Greater Allegheny scored six points during the final 20 seconds, ralling to defeat the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team 80-78 on Friday night.

Brandywine led for nearly the entire game before a four-point play with 20 seconds left tied the score at 78-all and two Chris Killings knocked down two free throws to give the visitors the lead for good seven seconds later.

The Lions had a final possession with an opportunity to tie or take the lead, but could not get a shot off.

Brandywine led 15-5 through four minutes of play before GA rallied to take a two-point edge eight minutes later. A.J. Dreger (Newtown Square, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) buried a three-pointer to give Brandywine the lead back and two possessions later, drilled another triple to extend the margin to 34-28.

A layup from Dillon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) pushed the Lions' edge to 41-32 at the break.

Greater Allegheny made a run midway through the second half, climbing within four, but the Lions held the visitors off thanks to three consecutive jumpers from Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter).

Colin Hockenbrock's (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) breakaway dunk made the count 71-61 in favor of Brandywine with 5:51 to play, but GA once again made a push. The visitors scored 12 of the next 15 points to get within one.

Two Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) free throws with 1:12 on the clock upped the lead to three points and Hockenbrock added a free throw 46 seconds later that made the margin 78-74; however, Greater Allegheny scored the final six points of the night to claim the victory. After completing a four-point play that tied the score, GA got a steal and sank two free throws to take the lead for good.

Dreger knocked down six three-pointers, scoring a team-high 18 points. Jones added 15 points and nine boards, while Dunson tallied 16 points. Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) rounded out four double-figure scorers with 10 points and Hockenbrock chipped in eight points and 11 boards.

Brandywine shot 47 percent from the field and buried 11 triples, but was hurt by 19 turnovers.
