Crone Leads Lady Knights Volleyball To Win

Danielle Crone (New Oxford, Pa.) led the Central Penn Lady Knights (4-8 overall) with 13 kills, five aces, one block and a career high 36 digs to a straight set win against Penn State Hazleton (1-7 overall) Tuesday night 27-25, 25-16, 25-16.

Central Penn found themselves down 24-21 in the first game. Following a timeout by second-year coach Jason Barshinger, the Knights responded with a 6-1 run and took the first set. The second and third games displayed aggressive serving and a readiness for anything Penn State Hazleton sent over the net. Central Penn held PSU Hazleton to only 11 kills and a -.127 hitting percentage.

Crone placed her second highest number of kills following the 18 she tallied against HACC last week. She now has more than 60 kills on the season and is on pace to record more than 100 on the year.

The Lady Knights balanced attack averaged a .275 hitting percentage. Bachelle Upshur (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded eight kills, 13 digs, two aces and one assist. Heather Sholley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added 14 digs, one kill, one ace and one assist. Linzy Brumbaugh (Huntingdon, Pa.) tallied nine digs, while Laiken Binner (Lebanon, Pa.) had seven.

Freshman setter Alexa Christman (New Holland, Pa.) directed the action and found her hitters for 18 assists. She also gave the Lady Knights two aces and nine digs.

"Danielle and Bachelle played big up front, but it was the overall effort from every single player that got us the win," says Barshinger. "That was a big win. We've given ourselves the opportunity to go into our break 5-8 after a very tough first half. We're staying focused and improving on the little things every day."

The Lady Knights traveled to western PA on Wednesday to face off against Penn State Dubois at 7 p.m.
