Strong attack leads CPC volleyball to win

Central Penn College landed a 3-0 victory against USCAA opponent Penn State DuBois (0-7) last Wednesday night.

"We knew we needed this win and we played like it from start to finish," says head coach Jason Barshinger.

With three players out of the lineup, the Central Penn Knights (5-8) changed their rotation and picked up their second straight victory. The Knights finished the match with a 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 score and tallied 22 kills on a 39.5 hitting percentage along the way.

"We continued to put ourselves in good positions with our serves," states Barshinger. "We were ready for anything close to the net and we terminated the free ball very well tonight."

Serves played a huge part in Central Penn's success Wednesday night with 19 total aces. Nine of those came in the second game alone.

"Our service game tonight was both smart and aggressive," adds Barshinger. "We won the mental game and didn't beat ourselves on any aspect of the match."

Danielle Crone (New Oxford, Pa.) led the way with 16 kills and no errors on 23 attempts for a 69.5 hitting percentage. The offensive display was Crone's most efficient of her Central Penn career. She also added six aces, two blocks and seven digs.

Bachelle Upshur (Brooklyn, N.Y.) supplied three kills, three aces, two blocks and four digs. Donna Wilson (Philadelphia) added two kills. Alexa Christman (New Holland, Pa.) led the Lady Knights' attack options by dishing out 16 assists in the match.

The Lady Knights go into their mid-season break in the middle of the pack, but with USCAA national tournament hopes alive.

"We know it's an outside shot, but this team isn't one to give up," says Barshinger. "Our eyes remain on the tournament. We'll rest up a bit now, heal and grow stronger for the second half. It's going to be an exciting October."
