Lions Post First League Victory; Blank GA 3-0

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season and evened its conference record at 1-1 following a 3-0 triumph over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine goalkeepers Joe Opdenaker (Lenni, Pa./The Christian Academy) and Will Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) combined to stop all four GA shots during the shutout. Opdenaker started the game and blocked the only shot he faced, while Scott-Norris played the final 34:02, making three saves.

Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester) and Manny Amine (Detroit, Mich./Wyoming Park) executed a corner kick to perfection, giving Brandywine a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Amine sent a corner feed into the box and Walleekendeh headed the ball into the back of the net for his second tally of the season.

The score remained the same until the 58th minute when freshman Eduardo Gil Matos (Folsom, Pa./Wesleyan Academy) netted his first collegiate goal, doubling the Brandywine edge. With less than 12 minutes to play in the match, Joe Rhoads (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) found the back of the net for the first time in his career, providing the final margin at 3-0.

Brandywine held a 6-4 edge in shots on goal and tallied seven of the game's nine corner kicks.

The Lions (2-4, 1-1 PSUAC) begin a busy week on Monday with a trip to Gwynedd Mercy at 4:00 pm.
