SHENANGO VOLLEYBALL SNAGS ITS FIRST WIN

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa – Shenango Women's Volleyball snagged their first win of the season over Penn State New Kensington (1-3, 0-1) on Tuesday night (21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23). This brings Shenango 1-2 overall, and 1-0 in conference play

Errors made by Shenango in the first set, allowed Penn State New Kensington to pull ahead and eventually take the set, 21-25. Penn State New Kensington battled hard, and tied during the next two sets, and even took a 1-point lead. Behind the strong spike of Jr. Olivia Vogel and assisted by Fr. setter Emily Bortnick, Shenango took back the lead and held on.

In sets two and three Shenango took an early lead, eventually leading New Kensington by 9 points. New Kensington was able to come back within 2 points due to the kills of Fr. Kylie DiLeo. By the skillful hands of defensive specialist, Donique Marcella, the Lady Lions went on to take those sets 25-18 and 25-22.

Shenango led on the service Line, giving Vogel 7, Marcella 4, and Filicky 3 aces a piece for the night. Vogel continues to lead the team on the service line with 21 aces this season.

Sr. Katie Richards ended the game with 10 kills (tied with Jr. Vogel) and 13 digs. Fr. Emily Filicky continues to lead the team in blocks (10) picking up another during this match that changed the tone for Shenango Volleyball for the entirety of the night.  

Shenango will continue conference play on Saturday, September 18, hosting Penn State Mont Alto (4-2) at 2:00 PM at Buhl Gym.
