Men's Basketball Wins Big Against Penn State Shenango

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball won their first PSUAC conference matchup of the season on Saturday, defeating Penn State Shenango 91-74.

Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) and Andrew Sepp (Bogota, NJ / Saint Mary High School) alternated in carrying the offensive load for Schuylkill early on, responsible for all of Schuylkill's points during their 13-4 run to kick off the contest, all assisted by Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School). Shenango claimed their initial lead in the contest following a 16-6 run with 12:46 remaining in the first half.

Schuylkill's bench ignited during the latter stages of the half, contributing 27 points collectively for the half, with Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) standing out with 12 points. Schuylkill held a 14-point advantage heading into the second half after Jahmir Tyrell (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy High School) connected on a turnaround jumper at the buzzer.

A successful jump shot narrowed Shenango's deficit to 52-46 with 15:41 remaining in the contest. Subsequently, Schuylkill seized control of the game, embarking on a 28-4 run highlighted by 14 points from Wilvens Fleurizard (Tamarac, FL / Coral Springs High School) and a dunk from Tyrell. Schuylkill maintained their substantial lead, ultimately defeating Shenango.

Fleurizard led Schuylkill in scoring with 17 points off the bench. Also scoring in double figures off the bench was Jones who finished with 15. Sepp added 14 points, hitting 4 three pointers on the night.
