Shenango Women's Basketball put up a spirited fight in front of their home crowd but ultimately came up short, losing 71-65 to Berkeley on Tuesday night. Despite a slow start, Shenango's second-half push kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
Shar'Da Williamson led Shenango with an impressive double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 17 rebounds. Her relentless energy on both ends of the court fueled Shenango's comeback attempt. Williamson also added four assists and a steal while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Hailee Aguinaga was a dominant force on the boards, collecting 16 rebounds to complement her six points and one block. Alli Lewis contributed seven points and eight rebounds, adding to Shenango's effort on the glass as they outrebounded Berkeley 55-38.
Jaysina Sellers was another bright spot for Shenango, efficiently scoring 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and knocking down one of the team's three successful three-pointers. Shenango struggled from long range, shooting only 15% (3-of-20) from beyond the arc, which hindered their offensive flow.
Despite shooting just 27.4% from the field, Shenango excelled at the free-throw line, converting 88.9% of their attempts (16-of-18), a key factor in keeping the game close. However, turnovers were a challenge, with Shenango committing 28 compared to Berkeley's 17.
Berkeley's Khya Hough proved to be a major obstacle, leading all scorers with 23 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Magan Jackson added 19 points and nine rebounds for Berkeley, helping to keep the visitors ahead in crucial moments.
Shenango showed resilience, outscoring Berkeley 20-15 in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too steep to overcome. The loss brings Penn State Shenango to 1-2 on the season, with promising performances to build upon as they look ahead to their next Tuesday's home game against Kenyon at 7 PM.
