Men's Basketball Loses Season Opener to Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball dropped their season opener to NAIA opponent Point Park University.

Two consecutive baskets by Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) put an end to an 11-2 Point Park run and brought Schuylkill's deficit to 24-14. Point Park went on to outscore Schuylkill 28 to 6 to end the first half.

Schuylkill fought throughout the second half, outscoring Point Park 47-42. Both teams shot 46% from the field during the period, with Schuylkill shooting an eye-popping 66% from the three-point range. Jones and Derrick McCummings (Marion, SC / Baumholder High School) scored 10 points each in the period.

Jones finished with 14 points while McCummings scored 10 points for Schuylkill. Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School) added 9 points and 5 assists in the loss.

Schuylkill (0-1 overall, 0-0 PSUAC) will play their second game at Point Park University against NAIA opponent Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday, November 5th.
