Builders Sweep Penn St Mont Alto

Game 1

IN BRIEF: On a cold Saturday afternoon, the Builders hosted fellow USCAA member Penn State Mont Alto. Tyler Winegrad took the mound for the Builders and turned in a stellar performance. Winegrad would retire the Lions in order in the first two innings, keeping the score at 0 to 0. Braden Lambert would break the tie on a two run home run that soared over the bullpen in left field. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Builders would add to their lead when Lou Picolo scored on a fielder's choice. The score would remain 3 to 0 until the top of the 6th, when the Lions would get one back with a solo homerun to left field. 

Tyler Winegrad turned in a dominating start for the Builders. Winegrad completed 5 innings, giving up 0 hits, and striking out five batters. Winegrad cruised for most of the game before getting into a jam in the top of the 5th. The Lions would load the bases but Winegrad kept his composure and forced the Lions batter to line out to second base. Taylor Hampton would relieve Winegrad in the top of the 6th. Hampton would get through the 6th with no trouble. After hitting the first batter in the 7th, Hampton forced the next three batter to fly out and the Builders took Game 1 by a score of 3 to 1. Hampton earned his first save of the season and Winegrad improved to 2-0 on the season.

Game 2

IN BREIF: In Game 2 it was Clay O'Brien on the mound for the Builders. O'Brien was looking for his second win of the season. The Builders would once again strike first with an RBI single from James Williams in the bottom of the 2nd. In the top of the 3rd, the Lions would get one back and our score would be tied at 1 to 1 heading to the bottom of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Builders would take advantage of the Lion's pitching struggles. The Builders would bring across 4 runs in the inning. Many coming from walks, hit by pitches, and one error in the inning. After three, the Builders would lead 5 to 1. 

The Lions would trim the lead to two with two runs in the top of the 4th but the Builders quickly responded with two of their own. Braden Lambert hit a ball to the left center gap that brought home two and extended the lead to 7 to 3. Clay O'Brien finished the game with 3.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, and 5 Ks. William Capps earned the win today, going 1.1 IP in relief. Logan Mize would then take over on the mound in the 6th and give up no runs, holding the socre at 7 to 3. The Builders would plate two more in the bottom of the 6th when Braden Lambert tripled to right center and Mitch Grawey singled to right.
