Men's Basketball Defeats Penn State Fayette

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball won Saturday's matchup against PSUAC opponent Penn State Fayette.

Facing a 15-12 deficit with 12:23 remaining in the first half, Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) ignited, scoring 9 consecutive unanswered points that prompted a Fayette timeout. Following the timeout, Bryce Hensley (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain High School) emphatically extended Schuylkill's lead to 23-15 with a two-handed slam. Schuylkill's advantage reached double digits after two more buckets by Jones.

Antwuan Bryd's (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School) successful three-pointer at the 6:03 mark of the first half pushed Schuylkill's lead to 16 points, marking their largest advantage in the contest at that juncture. Schuylkill entered the second half with a comfortable 13-point lead.

Despite trailing by as much as 19 in the second half, Fayette narrowed the deficit to 75-73 with 10:50 remaining in the contest. However, Schuylkill responded with authority, capitalizing on an 11-2 run to reestablish a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Jones finished with 28 points and 6 steals in the win. Byrd added 20 points, 7 assists, and 7 steals. Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Catonsville High School) recorded 18 points and 6 rebounds while Amir Gray (Washington, DC / Quince Orchard High School) notched 16 points and 6 assists.

Schuylkill (7-11 overall, 4-4 PSUAC) will host PSUAC opponent Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday, January 16th. Start time is 8:00 p.m.
