Men's Basketball Defeats Penn State Dubois in Overtime

DUBOIS, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball won in overtime against Penn State Dubois on Friday, 112-101.

Trailing 15-16 with 13:02 to go in the first half, Schuylkill embarked on a 12-0 run to seize a 27-16 lead, marking their largest advantage of the contest. Dubois leveled the score at 30 apiece with a three-point basket with 6:08 remaining, another three-point basket possessions later gave Dubois a 33-30 advantage.

Schuylkill promptly responded as Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) drained a three-pointer on the following possession. Jones's shot initiated a 14-2 Schuylkill surge, culminating in a dunk by Jahmir Tyrell (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy High School), providing Schuylkill with a 44-35 lead with 2:49 remaining in the half. Dubois made a comeback before halftime, embarking on an 11-0 run to regain the lead at 46-44. Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Catonsville High School) and Tyrell each converted a pair of free throws during the final seconds of the half, granting Schuylkill a two-point edge heading into the second period.

Dubois started the second half with a run, ultimately achieving their largest lead of the contest at 64-54 with 15:09 remaining. Consecutive layups by Tyrell and Devin Adams (Baltimore, MD / Kenwood High School) narrowed the gap for Schuylkill, bringing them within two points with 11:47 remaining.

As both teams battled closely during the final moments of the contest, Adams made two free throws to give Schuylkill an 88-85 lead with 20 seconds remaining. With the game winding down, Dubois sank a three-pointer that ultimately forced the game into overtime.

Schuylkill played with a sense of urgency during the extra period, shooting a perfect 9-9 from the field and outscoring Dubois 24-13.

Tyrell led all scorers with 36 points to go with 5 assists and 6 steals. Adams tallied 25 points for Schuylkill. Antwuan Byrd added 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jones contributed 17 points off the bench. Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) notched a game-high 14 rebounds in the victory.

Schuylkill (4-8 overall, 2-3 PSUAC) will compete in their final contest of 2023 against PSUAC opponent Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, December 9th.
