Baseball season opens up in Myrtle Beach with double header losses

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – New Kensington baseball opened up the season with a double header against Penn State Schuylkill on Sunday. Game one proved to be New Kensington's warmup, falling 17-1, as it improved its play in game two, although it faced another upset, falling 9-5.  With the losses, New Kensington starts the season 0-2, while Schuylkill advances to 3-3.

The early game started off in New Kensington's favor, with Camden Zaken (Washington, Pa./ Trinity), first to bat, tripling, eventually leading to a score off of Paul Perman (Glenshaw, Pa./ Shaler Area) in the top of the first. Schuylkill then answered back with three runs in the first, taking the lead from New Kensington and keeping it for the duration of the game.

In three innings of work, Reise Matson (Kittaning, Pa./ Armstrong) struck out three, while Zaken picked up a pair of hits at the plate.

In the second game, Matson went three-for-four and scored three runs for New Kensington. Perman contributed an RBI double, while Tallon Auth (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and Austin O'Hara (New Kensington, Pa./ St. Joseph) also doubled.

New Kensington will remain in South Carolina for two non-conference games on Tuesday. It will faceoff with Illinois Valley Community College at 3 p.m. and Henry Ford College at 6 p.m.
