Shenango drops 3 straight at PSU Greater Allegheny

Pittsburgh, Pa - The first set saw the Lady Lions fall behind early (5-2) a deficit they unfortunately were unable to recover from. Unlike their prior contests, Shenango had issues maintaining their serve. Emily Filicky managed to score an ace and was potent from behind the line, but it was not enough as Greater Allegheny held their lead for a 25-17 victory.

The second set was a closer contest. Filicky and Emily Bortnick paved the way with their jump serves. Donique Marcella and Katie Richards added some much-needed defense with some spectacular digs, but Shenango still came up short 25-19.

The Third set once again was a feisty one from Shenango. Mercedes Krueger and Giaona Caputo posted multiple kills in the set. Krueger and Filicky, performed well at the net, along with Jill Dunleavy to keep this set close and tied late, before The City Campus pulled away for a 25-19 set win to take the match 3-0.

Despite the loss Shenango continued to show improvement at the net. The new addition of Krueger has helped to give the team a powerful presence along with Dunelavy and Liv Vogel. Vogel once again led the way with 6 kills. Richards (who posted 5 kills of her own) led the team in total attempts with 26, while Marcella bagged 14 total digs to lead the team defensively.

The Shenango Lady Lions will return home this Saturday for a 2 pm bout with Penn State Fayette at The F.H. Buhl Club in Sharon, Pa. Shenango will recognize their outstanding Seniors, Richards, and Marcella in a pregame ceremony.
