DuBois Knocks off #1 Seed in the Country

The men's basketball team hosted the #1 ranked team in the USCAA this afternoon in Greater Allegheny.  DuBois lost to Greater Allegheny in their first meeting, but DuBois was ready to give an all-out team effort in front of the home crowd.

A back-and-forth game saw Greater Allegheny eventually pull out to a 14-point lead, but DuBois fought back with a hard defensive effort to go down 51-49 at the half.  Coming back out into the 2nd half, Greater Allegheny hit a couple of quick buckets, but DuBois held the score close with some big 3's from Beau Verdill.

With the score finally knotted at 62, Jaiquil Johnson stole the ball and kicked it ahead to Kaleb Pryor to hit a 3-point shot to take the lead, 65-62 at the 14-minute mark of the 2nd half.  Finally, from an offensive rebound by Jadon Myers, Kyron Harbin made a layup to give DuBois the lead by 4, 99-95 with 17 seconds left.  That is where the score would stay for the rest of the game as DuBois would knock off the top seed.

Johnson would end the night with 27 points while Pryor would add 20.  Verdill put in 19 points, Harbin would add 15, and Ashton Fortson would drop 11 points for DuBois.  Jordin Summers was a defensive menace as he led the DuBois defense with 4 steals and dished out 6 assists on the other end.

DuBois will travel to Beaver for another PSUAC matchup on Wednesday with a tipoff slated for 8:00 pm.
