Men's Basketball Falls to Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball lost to PSUAC opponent Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday.

A total of 8 ties and 5 lead changes occurred before Schuylkill called a 30-second timeout with 11:37 remaining in the first half. Out of the timeout, a made jump shot by Hadir Boswell (Philadelphia, PA / West Philadelphia Catholic High School) and 8 consecutive points by Amir Gray (Washington, DC / Quince Orchard High School) gave Schuylkill a 33-25 advantage before extending their lead to 10 points following a made jumper by Lamine Diop (Cincinnati, OH / Finneytown High School) at the 8:48 mark. A late surge by Mont Alto saw them take a 43-41 lead heading into halftime.

Mont Alto began the second half with a 10-0 run, extending their lead to double digits with 16:03 to play. A three-pointer by Devin Adams (Baltimore, MD / Kenwood High School) a few possessions later brought Schuylkill back within single digits. Schuylkill fought back to retake the lead following a layup by Boswell with 2:29 remaining in the contest.

With Mont Alto in possession of the basketball up three points with 31 seconds to go, Bryce Hensley (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain High School) came up with a steal, giving Schuylkill a chance to narrow their deficit. Out of their timeout, Adams attacked the lane and finished at the rim to make it a one-point game with 17 seconds left. Two free throws by Mont Alto ultimately sealed the game for them.

Gray led Schuylkill in scoring with 17 points. Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) added 12 points. Boswell and Adams finished with 10 points each while Boswell 6 collected rebounds.

Schuylkill (12-16 overall, 9-9 PSUAC) will host PSUAC opponent Penn State Wilkes-Barre for their final matchup of the regular season. Schuylkill will clinch the number four seed of the PSUAC playoffs with a win against Wilkes-Barre or a Penn State Brandywine (8-10 PSUAC) loss to Penn State York. If both teams finish 9-10 in conference play, Brandywine will own the tiebreaker due to a better divisional record (7-5) than Schuylkill (5-7).
