Lady Lions take fourth-straight win with victory against Wilkes-Barre

MONACA, Pa.––The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team earned a second of back-to-back conference wins after bringing down Penn State Wilkes-Barre 71-59 in Saturday afternoon's home game.
Sophomore forward Jimya Chambers (Phoenix/Westview) led the way for Beaver with a double-double, finishing with 16 points, 10 rebounds, four rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block, followed by sophomore guard Alexis Cross (Columbiana), who earned 15 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists,
followed by junior guard Diamond Thomas (Pittsburgh/Carlynton), who finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block.
Senior forward/center Cheyenne Lopez (Roswell/Goddard) led the team in assists, finishing with 11 in the game.
Sophomore forward Mikayla Womer (Jackson Center/Lakeview) finished just shy of a double-double, putting up 10 points, nine assists and two steals off the bench.
1st quarter: The Lady Lions opened up with their most dominant quarter of the game on both ends of the floor by holding Wilkes-Barre to only 1 point while racking 21 points.
2nd quarter: While the Lady Lions build their largest lead of 22 points at 9:15 after a layup freshman guard Kaitlin Gabbidon (Valley Stream/Central), they began to turn the ball over and struggled with passing, allowing Wilkes-Barre to outscore them 19-6 in the quarter to cut Beaver's lead to 27-21 before halftime.
3rd quarter: The teams kept the game close but Beaver never gave up the lead. Cross and Lopez both scored two free-throws with only: 12 seconds left to give Beaver a 9-point advantage heading into the final quarter (51-42).
4th quarter: Womer hit back-to-back layups in the final two minutes and led the scoring in the fourth with 8 points to help secure a 71-59 win for Beaver.
After tonight's win, the Lady Lions improve to a 4-1 record overall and sit at a 3-0 in the PSUAC standings. The Lady Lions will head to Geneva College for their next game on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The game is slated for 6 p.m.
