Softball Tops Norwich, Youst Records 100 Career Hits

MYRTLE BEACH, Sc.Alyssa Youst recorded her 100th career hit as Penn State Schuylkill Softball dominated Norwich University in the first half of their Friday doubleheader.

Following a run by Norwich at the top of the second inning, Melanie Torrales (Allentown, PA / William Allen High School) singled to shortstop in the bottom of the third inning to get things started for Schuylkill. With Torrales positioned at third base with Emma Crisswell (Williamstown, PA / Williams Valley High School) up next at bat, Crisswell would single in Schuylkill's first run of the contest, evening the score at 1-1. Consecutive singles by Kaely Walshaw (Dornsife, PA / Line Mountain High School) and Alyssa Youst (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Blue Mountain High School) led to a Crisswell run, giving Schuylkill a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth.

With bases loaded for Schuylkill at the top of the fourth, Cealinn McGroarty (New Boston, PA / Mahanoy Area High School) tripled to right field, batting in four runs for Schuylkill. Schuylkill tallied a total of seven hits and nine runs during the inning as Youst, Megan Marks (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township High School), and Torrales all drove in additional runs. Norwich was unable to make a comeback as they ended the fifth inning with only one run.

Youst went a perfect 3-3 at bat with two RBIs. Also perfect at the plate was Torrales who finished with three hits and an RBI. McGroarty led the team with four RBIs and a triple. Walshaw won her matchup on the mound, striking out five opponents.
