Baseball Wins Big Against Bay College

MYRTLE BEACH, Sc. – Penn State Schuylkill Baseball defeated Bay College by a score of 12-3 Thursday at the Ripken Experience.

With Conner Licklider (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) positioned at second base at the top of the third inning following a single to left field and a wild pitch, Owen Zimmerman (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) would double to right field to drive in Schuylkill's first score of the contest. Bay College responded at the bottom of the inning as a single to left field drove in two runs and gave them a 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth. Another single at the bottom of the fourth gave Bay College an additional run to end the inning, holding a 3-1 advantage.

A double by Nate Gilbert (Shoemakersville, PA / Hamburg Area High School) at the top of the fifth gave Schuylkill two runs, evening the score at 3-3. Singles by Brenan Adams (Pottsville, PA / Pottsville Area High School) and RayJay Marmolejos (Wyomissing, PA / Wilson High School) drove in two additional runs. Schuylkill ended the inning with 5 total runs. A home run by Licklider during the first play of the sixth inning gave Schuylkill a 7-3 advantage.

With Bay College within striking distance heading into the seventh inning, Schuylkill showcased their dominance beginning with a double from Marmolejos. A single by Licklider plays later batted in a run for Marmolejos. A triple by Zimmerman plays later gave Schuylkill two additional runs. Gilbert would hit a home run to put the icing on the cake and give Schuylkill a total of five runs during the inning.

Gilbert went 3-4 at bat finishing with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Also hitting a home run was Licklider who finished the game with three hits and two RBIs. Zimmerman went 3-4 at bat finishing with a triple, a double, and three RBIs. Marmolejos finished 2-3 at the plate with a double. Tristian Baer (Hamburg, PA / Hamburg Area High School) went the distance on the mound, allowing three runs and striking out six opponents.

Schuylkill (5-3 overall, 0-0 PSUAC) will finish their trip at the Ripken Experience on Friday as they take on the Apprentice School in a doubleheader. The first meeting is at 12:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. game.
