Lady Lions keep rolling against Fayette, 3-0

MONACA, Pa. – The Penn State Beaver women's softball team's hot streak persisted after bringing down PSUAC rival Penn State Fayette 3-0 on Monday night.
After a scoreless three innings, the Lady Lions got going and put themselves in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth with senior Dina Cable (Mannington/ Salem County Vo Tech) on second and senior Torey Cassidy (Hinsdale/Portville) on third. Senior Brittany Zahn (New Brighton) then took her turn at bat and singled to left field to drive-in Cable and Cassidy to put Beaver up by two (2-0). In the top of the fifth, it looked like Fayette would finally land on the board. But the batter lined out to into a double play after senior Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish), who was on the mound, got the ball to freshman Taylor Johnson (San Antonio/East Central) at second to for a double play. In the bottom of the sixth, Zahn bunted to get Jackson to second and advanced Cable to third. Then, Johnson bunted-in RBI Cable to score Beaver's third run. The Lady Lions won the game 3-0.
Zahn led the way for Beaver, hitting 1 for 2 and earning 2 RBIs followed by Johnson, who also went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI today. Additionally, Cable, who went 2 for 3 at bat, scored two runs in the game.
Jackson was on the mound for Beaver (W, 13-1-1), where she pitched a complete game and picked up her thirteenth win of the season. Jackson allowed only three hits and struck out 6 of the 25 batters she faced. She has a current ERA of 1.17.
After today's win against Fayette, Beaver is now 20-8 overall for the season and holds on the second seed in the West at 10-2 in the PSUAC conference.
The Lady Lions will be on the road tomorrow against Carlow University in a doubleheader on April 9. Game one is at 3 p.m. followed by game two at 5 p.m.
