Builders Advance After Shutting Out #1 PSU-Dubois, 7-0 In SCWS

DuBois, PA. – After winning three straight games to stay alive in the Small College World Series, the Apprentice Baseball team drew #1 seed Penn State-DuBois in their fourth elimination game in two days.  The Builders' pitching has shut down teams and their bats have been getting the job done at the plate.  Tonight they would need to have all come together again if they were to advance.

Caleb Russell put Apprentice on the board first, with a solo homerun to right-center, in the top pf the second inning.   The scoring continued in the top of the third, when Thomas Packert hit an RBI double, scoring Matt Phoebus, which was followed by another double, this time from Riggs Ellis, driving in two more runs for the early lead, 4-0.  The Nittany Lions were able to get two base runners on in their half of the third inning, but Andrew Castine shut down the scoring opportunity.  After Camden Weston was able to get on base and eventually advance to second, to start the fourth inning, Maxwell Burcham came to the plate and delivered an RBI single, scoring Weston to increase the Builders' advantage to 5-0.

PSU-DuBois threatened in the fifth, loading the bases, but Packert relieved Logan Mize on the mound and pitched Apprentice out of the inning, not allowing any of the base runners to score.  After getting the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, Braxton Wallace drove in two runs with a single down the infield line, to increase the Builders' lead to 7-0.  Packert finished off the game, striking out the side giving Apprentice the win to stay alive and advance.

The win caps off a day that saw the Builders eliminate the #3 and #1 seeds, as Castine, Mize and Packert controlled the mound and Caleb Russell hit a homerun, while going 3-3 from the plate.  In addition, Ellis and Wallace each finished with 2 RBI's a piece.  Apprentice will try to keep their run going as they face Cincinnati-Clermont tomorrow (Thursday) at 11:00am.  Stay tuned to www.gobuilders.com for game updates.
