Shenango Drops 3-set match to Fayette to End Regular Season

Sharon, Pa The regular season for the Shenango Lady Lions came to and on Saturday as Shenango dropped a 3-set match to Penn State Fayette (25-20, 25-14, 25-23.)

The first set saw Penn State Fayette jump out to a sizeable 19-11 lead. Shenango (much like it did all season) began to rally. Liv Vogel posted three of her team leading 8 kills on the day, Emily Filicky held serve and Shenango recorded 5 straight serve points. Shenango outscored Fayette 9-6 in the final moments of the set, but Fayette's large lead was too much for Shenango to overcome.

The second set was dominated by Penn State Fayette. They jumped out to a 10-5 lead, and never looked back. They took the set 25-14 and forced Shenango into several errors in doing so to secure the set win.

The third set was a much more competitive foray for Penn State Shenango. Mercedes Krueger and Vogel launched a fury of kills behind the serving of Emily Bortnick. Krueger finished the day with 6 kills and 10 digs that led the team. Vogel punched in a pair as well and Shenango led 7-4 early. Katie Richards began a hot streak form behind the line, that included an impressive ace. Krueger flexed her defensive might once again adding two blocks to help Shenango to a 15-11 lead. Fayette countered with some much-needed defense of their own and several blocks that stymied Shenango's red hot serving while taking a 18-17 lead. Jill Dunlevy and Filicky joined in on the block fest for Shenango and helped to rally the team to a 21-21 tie. After a vigorous volley back and forth, Fayette was able to recapture their serve that led to a 25-23 victory for the visitor.
