Men's Basketball Tops St. Mary's College

ST. MARYS CITY, Md. - Jahmir Tyrell (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy High School) and Wilvens Fleurizard (Tamarac, FL / Coral Springs High School) combined for 39 points as Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball defeated NCAA Division III opponent St. Mary's College, 64-60.

The first half saw a total of six ties with Schuylkill in the driver's seat for the majority of the half. With the score even at 21 apiece, Fleurizard scored 10 consecutive points to end the half and give Schuylkill a 31-23 advantage heading into the final period of play.  

Schuylkill extended their lead to 15 points on a 12-5 run to begin the half highlighted by 8 points by Tyrell. Trailing 60-47 with 2:35 remaining, St. Mary's managed to narrow the gap, going on a 13-2 run to bring the score to 62-60 with :57 seconds remaining. With St. Mary's in possession of the basketball with :9 seconds remaining in regulation, Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School) rebounded a missed three-point attempt by St. Mary's and found Tyrell, who sealed the game with an emphatic dunk. Tyrell led all scorers with 21 points while Fleurizard added 18 points on the night.

Schuylkill (2-6 overall, 0-1 PSUAC) will play their next two games at home as they host Penn State New Kensington on Friday, and Penn State Shenango on Saturday.
