Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Penn State Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Men's Basketball fell in overtime to PSUAC opponent Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday.

There were a total of 15 ties and 13 lead changes during Saturday's PSUAC matchup, with the lead not exceeding more than two possessions throughout the regulation. Schuylkill held the advantage heading into the second half, outscoring Greater Allegheny 38-35 in the opening half.

A successful layup by Dashawn Dixon (Baltimore, MD / Catonsville High School) provided Schuylkill with a 74-69 lead with 4:10 remaining in regulation. Subsequently, Greater Allegheny embarked on a 7-2 run to level the score at 76 with 2:04 left in the contest.

Jahmir Tyrell (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy High School) knocked down a jumper to grant Schuylkill a 78-76 advantage with 1:05 to go. Following a Greater Allegheny layup, Tyrell located Makhi Jones (Harrisburg, PA / Susquehanna Township High School) for a three-point basket, establishing a three-point lead for Schuylkill with 29 seconds remaining. Three converted free throws by Allegheny in the waning moments of the contest sent the game into overtime.

Greater Allegheny capitalized on the additional period, outscoring Schuylkill 19-12 in overtime.

Tyrell scored a team-high 24 points for Schuylkill. Dixon added 20 points and 8 rebounds. Jones, Antwuan Byrd (Harrisburg, PA / Bishop McDevitt High School), and Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy) scored 10 points each in the loss.

Schuylkill (4-9 overall, 2-4 PSUAC) will return to action in 2024 as they travel to NCAA Division III opponent Salisbury University on January 6th.
