Aiden McHugh gave Williamson an outstanding pitching effort in the team's 5-4 win over Penn State Hazelton

Outstanding Pitching Leads to Game Two Triumph

Pressed for pitching, Williamson head coach Dough Thompson was forced to move ace reliever Aiden McHugh from his closing role into the role of starter in the second came of Williamson twin bill against Penn State Hazelton.  All he did was get into the sixth inning holding the Lions to just two runs, and fellow freshman Jacob Naumann picked things up from there to lead Williamson to a 5-4 win over the visitors.

The game was close from the beginning, as the teams traded runs early on.  It was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third when Brandon Henderson lined an RBI single to the Mechanics up 3-2.

After the game was halted due to a lightning alert for half an hour, Josh Illing continued his torrid streak with an RBI single to put Williamson up 4-2.

The Lions rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth to tie things up at 4-4.  In the bottom of the sixth, Naumann helped himself with a sacrifice fly, scoring Samuel Coppa with the go ahead run to put Williamson up 5-4.

In the seventh, Naumann struck out the first hitter, and coaxed the second batter into an infield pop-up.  The next batter hit a shot to the hole, which shortstop Cody Grande got to and fired to first baseman Steve Gualtieri, who stretched out wide and made a great grab to get the out and seal the win for the Mechanics.

The win, moves Williamson to 11-6 on the year.  The rest of the week could be in flux due to the weather so please stay tuned to the athletic web page in order to get the latest details.
